worldview & wizard of oz

When looking for a world view in a text one needs to familiarize himself first, with that particular text. It is important to understand the text before a person begins to make assumptions about its worldview. Recognizing the themes the author puts into the texts, the plot, and those hidden entities within, will help one uncover its worldview. The wizard of oz holds a Secular Humanist worldview. Dorthy is trying to get home, the tin man is trying to find a hear, the scarecrow needs a brain, and the lion is trying to find courage. In the end when they get to the Wizard they are hoping to get their answers but what they find is that they have been carrying the answers with them this entire time. No one else could give them these things they "needed" except for they themselves, just as the Secular Humanists only look to themselves for answers.
